CfC Stanbic Bank, which is part of the Standard Bank Group, is now the fourth largest bank in Kenya measured by total assets. The Standard Bank Group, which has its head office in South Africa, is Africa’s largest bank by market capitalization and assets. At the end of 2007, the Standard Bank Group had total assets of over R 1,191 billion (approximately USD175.0 billion) and employed over 40,000 people worldwide. The Bank’s market capitalization as at 3 April 2008 was R145 billion (approximately USD18.6 billion).
CfC Stanbic Bank was formed in June 2008 out of a deal that brought together Stanbic Bank Kenya Ltd and CfC Bank Ltd, which includes CfC Bank, CfC Life, CfC Financial Services, Heritage Insurance and Heritage Insurance Tanzania.
Customers of the previous separate banks continue to use their existing "home" branch for over-the-counter transactions.
